Fall Greetings from Mammoth Lakes,
Wow, we went from one of the warmest falls I can remember to rain, then snow in the blink of an eye. Out walking my dogs someone said “looks like winter is knocking at our door. I don’t think I am going to answer.” I am thinking he doesn’t really have an option here. It is a visual mixture of fall colors, wet from the rain, and snow on the mountains. Stunning.
This winter United Airlines/United Express will be offering one flight a day from San Francisco non stop to Mammoth. In addition, Horizon Air will be flying two flights a day non stop from LAX, one non stop from San Jose, and a daily flight from Portland – one stop. People I am talking with who are taking advantage of the flights in and out of Mammoth are loving it.
As far as real estate is concerned, typically we slow down after Labor Day although this fall seems a bit busier. The Westin auctioned off 18 units in mid September. The initial price offering started at $129,000. The units went out between $176,000 and $436,000.
Buyers are continuing to recognizing the values in our market and, if they can find the right property, are stepping forward to buy. There are still quite a few foreclosures and short sales.
